KINGSPORT – Kingsport City Schools is pleased to announce the naming of an interim
principal at John Adams Elementary.
Dr. Karen Reed-Wright has been named interim principal of John Adams
Elementary School. Dr. Reed-Wright assumes the position vacated by Dr. Dwain
Arnold, who was recently named KCS interim superintendent.
Dr. Reed-Wright previously spent 37 years as an educator in KCS, serving as an
elementary and middle school teacher, staff development coordinator, peer evaluator, and
literacy coordinator. She was most recently on the faculty of Virginia Intermont College,
where she was an Associate Professor of Education and Director of Student Teaching.
Dr. Reed-Wright is a National Board Certified and Career Level III teacher. She received
her doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from East Tennessee State
University in 2009. Her experience also includes participation in the Teacher Exchange
Program at the University of Exeter in England, studying the British Infant School
system. In addition to her Administrative endorsement, she is currently certified in
Elementary (1-8) Education, Secondary History and Sociology, and holds a K-8 Reading
Specialist endorsement.
Dr. Reed-Wright will assume her duties as interim principal on January 1, 2012.
